Suicide attack in Pakistan, car bomb blast kills several people
New Delhi. Five people have died in a suicide car bomb blast targeting a police station in Pakistan. Giving information about the blast, the police said that the deceased included four members of the same family. 13 other people were also injured in the blast. The police said that the suicide bomber rammed his car loaded with explosives into the rear side of the police station located in Domel tehsil of Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which caused a huge explosion.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the police, the intensity of the blast was so high that its sound was heard miles away, causing panic among the people of the area. Gunfire broke out immediately after the blast, further increasing tension in the area. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the police, rescue teams have recovered 5 bodies from the site. The deceased include a husband, wife, daughter and son from the same family. At least four policemen are also among the 13 people injured in the blast. Officials are assessing the situation and emergency rescue operations are underway. Several nearby houses were also damaged in the blast.
PM Sharif expressed grief.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office expressed grief over the loss of life and property. Officials said that initial information suggests that the police station was the main target of the attack. The banned organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has denied any involvement in the blast.
What did the TTP say?
In a statement, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said his group had nothing to do with the attack. Khurasani said the incident was staged by the government itself. The TTP alleged that the blast was intended to incite local residents against militants and sow divisions among the public. It appealed to the public to be vigilant against these deceptive tactics and oppose attempts to sow divisions in society.
