Summer Tips: Before buying watermelon, follow these 5 secret methods, without cutting it you will know whether the fruit is sweet from inside or not.
News India Live, Digital Desk: There is nothing better than watermelon to keep the body hydrated in the scorching heat. But the real problem comes when there are so many watermelons in the market to decide which one is the sweetest and ripest. Most people look at the watermelon by patting it, but that is not enough. According to experts, some marks present on the body of a watermelon tell the whole story of its sweetness. 5 surefire ways to identify a sweet watermelon: 1. Identification of the Yellow Spot: There is a spot on the bottom side of the watermelon which is called ‘field spot’. If the spot is dark yellow or orange (creamy yellow), it means the watermelon is fully ripe on the vine and will be very sweet. If this spot is white or light green, the watermelon may be unripe.2. Pay attention to the weight (Heavy for its Size): While picking up the watermelon, it should feel heavy for its size. A heavy watermelon means it is full of juice. If a big watermelon feels light to lift, then understand that its water has dried up or it is hollow from inside.3. ‘Webbing’ or reticulated marks (Weather cracking) visible on watermelon actually tell how many times the bees have pollinated the flower. The denser and larger this net on the watermelon is, the more sweet and juicy the fruit will be.4. Size and shape: Notice the shape of the watermelon. Watermelons which are absolutely round (Oval) are usually sweet. At the same time, watermelons which are slightly longer may have more water content and slightly less sweetness. Keep in mind that there should not be any lump or broken part in the watermelon.5. The Sound Test: Tap the watermelon with your fingers. If the sound is deep and hollow (dull thud), it means that the fruit is completely ripe. If the sound is too sharp or ‘pink-pink’ like, it may be raw.
