Sunita Williams created history, became the captain of ISS, got command for the second time, read the full update

New Delhi. While on one hand the efforts to bring back astronaut Sunita Williams are going on on Earth, on the other hand, she has been given a new responsibility in space. It is reported that Williams has been given the command of the ISS i.e. International Space Station. The special thing is that she has handled this responsibility before as well. She has been on the space station since June 5, 2024 with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore.

Williams' space trip was delayed due to a technical fault in the Boeing Starliner. It is being said that his return has been postponed till February 2025.

According to media reports, the US space agency NASA has announced that Russian cosmonaut Olek Kononenko has handed over the command of the space station to Williams. A small program was also organized on the space station regarding this. After spending 374 days in space, Kononenko and Nikolai Chub of Russia and an American astronaut Tracy C Dyson have returned to Earth. Dyson remained in space for 6 months.

The Soyuz capsule carrying two Russians and an American citizen landed in Kazakhstan on Monday. With this, the long stay of both the Russian astronauts ended. The capsule landed on the plain of Kazakhstan about three and a half hours after separating from the ISS. The capsule descended at a speed of about 7.2 meters per second with the red and white parachute opening in the final stage of return to Earth.

Sunita Williams took command for the second time
Earlier, about 12 years ago, i.e. in 2012, Williams had taken command of the space station during Expedition 33. As the captain of the space station, the Indian-origin astronaut will handle many important operations and scientific research. During the program, Williams said, 'Expedition 71 has taught us a lot…. You accepted me and Butch. Although, this was not even a part of the plan. You welcomed us like family.'
