Supreme Court ban on CBI investigation of coal theft in Dhanbad, High Court had ordered to investigate the role of police officers.

The then SSP of Dhanbad, Sanjeev Kumar and other police officers have got a big relief from the Supreme Court. A division bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanath has stayed the High Court order which had ordered a CBI inquiry into the alleged involvement of police officers in coal theft in Dhanbad.

Amidst the stampede of leaders, Himanta Sharma came to convince Sudesh Mahato, NDA's press conference started late by one and a half hour.

An SLP was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Jharkhand government against the order passed by High Court Justice SK Dwivedi on October 3. After the hearing, the Supreme Court has issued notice to other defendants including CBI in the case. The next hearing in the case will be on December 10.

In fact, on October 3, the High Court, while hearing the petition of private channel owner Arup Chatterjee, had directed the CBI to investigate the involvement of police officers in coal theft in Dhanbad. A petition was filed on behalf of Arup Chatterjee saying that coal is stolen through a syndicate in Dhanbad. Which also includes police officers, politicians and criminals.
