Apart from this, the court also rejected the previous decision of Justice Krishna Iyer by majority. Justice Iyer's previous judgment had held that all privately owned resources could be acquired by the state. It was said that the old regime was inspired by a particular economic and socialist ideology.

Also, the Supreme Court overturned decisions that adopted the socialist model after 1978 and ruled that the state could confiscate all private property for the common good.
CJI Chandrachud said that some judgments are wrong that all the personal resources of an individual are the material resources of the community. The role of the Court is not to determine economic policy, but to facilitate the establishment of economic democracy.
