Delhi Air Pollution: Supreme Court reprimanded Delhi government, said- Grape-4 will not be removed without asking us
New Delhi: Today, the Supreme Court has heard the petition filed demanding implementation of measures to prevent air pollution in the capital Delhi. During this time, the Supreme Court has strongly reprimanded the Delhi government. Also asked why there was so much delay in implementing GRAP 4 in the capital Delhi.
The case was heard by a bench of Justices AS Oka and Augustine George Masih on the petition filed. On behalf of the court, the Delhi government's lawyer was asked why the GRAP law has not been implemented yet. The bench further said that as soon as the AQI crosses 401, Stage 3 should be implemented. This happened on 13th November itself. In response to this, the Delhi government said that we have implemented Grape 4 in the capital.
After this, the Supreme Court said that it is proposing to pass an order that the officers will not remove Grap-4 without the permission of the court. Even if the air quality index (AQI) drops below 300.
The bench asked what are the guidelines of GRAP?
The bench further asked the question that the Delhi government should tell what are the guidelines of GRAP? And who is monitoring the implementation of GRAP? What steps are being taken to reduce pollution? The court, during the hearing, reprimanded the Delhi government and said that when AQI had crossed 401 in the capital Delhi on November 12. Then why was there so much delay in implementing GRAP 4?
What is AQI?
Let us tell you that air quality index is a number. Through which the work of assessing the air quality is done. Through this, an attempt is also made to find out the level of pollution present in the air. Based on AQI readings, air quality is divided into six categories. According to which, AQI between zero and 50 is considered good.
An AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory. 101 and 200 come in moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor. If the AQI of a city is between 401 and 500 then it falls in the serious category.
