The petitioner had also mentioned in his petition the tendency of many people in the society to make fun of Sikhs. He also talked about harassment of Sikh children in schools by fellow students. Later, Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Manjit Singh GK and Manjinder Singh Sirsa also filed petitions. Apart from this, two students of Nepali origin, Akshay Pradhan and Manik Sethi, also filed a petition and raised the issue of making Nepali/Gorkha people a laughing stock.

In 2016, the court had refused to make guidelines

While hearing the case in 2016, the court had made it clear that it cannot make guidelines against such jokes. But can give guidelines to prevent the presence of unwanted content on the Internet. For this the court had sought advice from all parties. The court had also pointed out the need to spread awareness in the society to ensure that not only Sikhs but all sections of society are not made targets of ridicule.
