Supreme Court of India under phishing attack; cyber crooks create multiple fake URLs-Read

In a notice issued by SC Registrar (Technology) Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi, it was confirmed that the Supreme Court’s Registry was alerted about a phishing attack. The notice mentioned that fake websites were impersonating the official Supreme Court website.

Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters have launched a phishing attack on the Supreme Court of India, creating multiple URLs that bear resemblance to the SC’s website.

In a public notice issued by SC Registrar (Technology) Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi, it was said that the Registry of the Supreme Court was alerted about the phishing attack. “The fake websites, impersonating the official

website has been created and hosted on the uniform resource locator (URL),” it said.

The notice said the attackers through these URLs were soliciting personal details and confidential information. Any visitor on the above URLs was strongly advised not to share and divulge any personal and confidential information, as the same could enable the perpetrators to steal the information.

The Registry has advised the public to neither click nor share on links they receive without verifying the authenticity. It said the Registry, Supreme Court would never ask for personal information, financial details or other confidential information.

“Please also note that the Supreme Court of India is the registered user of the domain name www.sci.gov.in and before clicking on any URL always hover over the URL to verify the same,” the notice said.

“In case you have been a victim of the above phishing attack, please change your passwords for all your online accounts and also contact your bank, credit card company, to report such unauthorised access,” it said, adding that the Registry had flagged the issue with law enforcement agencies to investigate the phishing attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
