When Jayawardene was asked after the match whether Suryakumar would be used as an ‘impact sub’ going forward, he said, “Hopefully no unwanted stories will be created. The team is happy and he was given the extra break which he needed.” He further informed that Suryakumar had mild stiffness, so as a precaution he was kept away from fielding. “He was ready to field, but we decided to rest him. There is a gap of five days before the next match, so we want to keep him fully fit,” Jayawardene said.

The coach also made it clear that such decisions regarding important players of the team are taken with full consideration and there is no need to worry about it. With this victory, Mumbai Indians also broke the streak of losing their first match. The team easily achieved the big target of 221 runs, in which the brilliant innings of Rohit Sharma (78 runs) and Ryan Rickelton (81 runs) had important contributions.

Jayawardene said after the match that the pitch was good for batting, although he felt that the opposition had scored 20 runs too many. But the way Rohit and Ryan batted, the team’s victory became easy. Overall, the coach has made it clear that there is no need for any concern or controversy regarding Suryakumar Yadav and the team seems completely balanced.
