Suryakumar Yadav makes bold claim despite lowest batting average this year

NEW DELHI: India sealed the third T20I against South Africa with a commanding 7-wicket victory, but the spotlight once again fell on skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s struggle with the bat.

Chasing a modest target with no real pressure, Suryakumar played an ambitious shot early and departed for 12, extending his poor run.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, the India captain reflected honestly on his form and mindset, stressing the importance of learning and adaptability in international cricket.

“I think this sport teaches a lot of things. How you come back into the series is what matters. There was a lot of learning from the last game and we had a good team meeting as well. We went back to basics.”

Suryakumar added that the process remains solid despite the lack of runs, underlining his confidence in preparation rather than outcomes.

“I have been batting beautifully in the nets. I am trying to do what’s in my control and hope the runs will come soon. Definitely not out of form but out of runs.”

Worrying numbers in 2025

While India continue to dominate on the field, Suryakumar’s personal numbers paint a concerning picture this calendar year. His average has dipped sharply, placing him among Indian batters with the lowest T20I averages in a single year, highlighting a rare slump for the usually explosive batter.
