Suryakumar Yadav Promises Comeback Ahead of T20 World Cup 2025 in India

India, the hosts, have concluded the 2025 calendar year fixtures with the last match, a fifth T20I, against South Africa which won India the series 3-1 and provided the team a further opportunity to gear up for the T20 World Cup, to be staged in India.

On the other hand, there was a major problem associated with the blue brigade not only during the South African series but over the entire year. It was none other than their captain Suryakumar Yadav’s inconsistency.

With a mere total of 34 runs in 4 T20I series innings against South Africa, the Indian leader finished 2023 with an unimpressive strike rate of 123.16 and without a fifty in his account.

Checkout what he mentioned about his recent poor form.

Suryakumar Yadav admits his batting struggles

The Indian captain after the series concluded—he talked with Murali Kartik during the post-series presentation and confessed that he didn’t shirk away from his duty and felt he was a very important part of the Indian team since a T20 mega tournament is going to be held in India very soon (in a little over a month).

Moreover, while he reminisced about his form, the batsman exuded confidence in his capacity to stage a comeback at the right moment and soon the Indian team would again be the winning side.

“Perhaps the only thing we always seem to debate in the end is where or when did we lose Surya, the batsman, I think he got lost somewhere! (smiles) But a stronger Surya will be seen again,” he added.

The captain opened up about the team’s performances during SA series matches and appeared glad about the players’ participation even when he could not led by example.

“I am very happy as a team. Anytime we faced difficulties, someone would take responsibility and help us out. That is very satisfying for me as captain, considering how this series went for us,” he said.

The hard-hitting Indian batsman has 218 T20I runs in 21 matches, averaging only 13.62 at a strike rate of 123.16, thus ending 2025 in the numbers. His top score of 47*(37) was against Pakistan in the group stage of the Asia Cup in Dubai.

After this, India will meet New Zealand in a series of three ODIs and five T20Is, starting January 11 in Vadodara.
