Suspended TMC MLA in Bengal laid the foundation stone of Babri…cut the ribbon with clerics, administration on high alert
Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a mosque to be built on the lines of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in Beldanga in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Kabir completed the formalities by cutting the ribbon with the clerics on the stage amid tight security arrangements.
During this, slogans of Nara-e-Takbeer and Allahu Akbar were raised. A crowd of more than 2 lakh people gathered in the program. Among the people who had come from different districts of Bengal, some had reached the venue carrying bricks on their heads, some in tractor-trolley and some in rickshaw or van.
The surrounding area including Beldanga is on high alert since this morning regarding the programme. More than 3 thousand soldiers including 19 teams of Central Armed Force, Rapid Action Force, BSF and several teams of local police are deployed in and around Beldanga.
Humayun Kabir had said on November 25 that he would lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid on December 6, marking the completion of 33 years of the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya. TMC had suspended Humayun Kabir from the party on 4 December.

Lakhs of people reached the venue from Saturday morning carrying bricks with them for the construction of the mosque.

Humayun Kabir addressed the people from the stage. Babri Masjid was written in the background on the stage also.

More than 100 tractors loaded with construction material reached the mosque construction site from many districts including Malda.

Posters of Babri Masjid foundation stone have been put up at various places in Beldanga.

Donations were also collected from people at the venue for the construction of Babri Masjid.

Due to the program, more than 3 thousand security forces have been deployed in Murshidabad district.
Humayun Kabir said – conspiracies were hatched to stop the construction of the mosque
Before the program, Humayun Kabir had said on Saturday that conspiracies are being hatched to disrupt the program by inciting violence, but I will lay the foundation of the mosque in Beldanga. No force can stop it. We will follow the orders of Calcutta High Court.
The High Court had refused to ban the construction of the mosque.
Kolkata High Court had on Friday refused to ban the construction of the mosque. The court said- It will be the responsibility of the state government to maintain peace during the program. Following the instructions of the High Court, Humayun Kabir laid the foundation of the mosque.
Religious leaders arrived from Saudi, 150 feet long stage was ready
Religious leaders from Saudi Arabia had attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of Bari Masjid. The program was organized on 25 bighas of land. Humayun Kabir had already predicted the gathering of more than 3 lakh people.
A 150 feet long and 80 feet wide stage was prepared for the program. Sitting arrangements were made for more than 400 people on the stage. More than 60 thousand biryani packets were prepared for the people coming to the program. More than 2 thousand volunteers handled the arrangements.
BJP said- This is politics to attract Muslim vote bank.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the mosque in the name of Babri in Murshidabad that the public has started recognizing those who mislead Muslims for political gains. There is coordination between TMC and Humayun Kabir. This is politics to attract Muslim vote bank.
Senior BJP leader Amit Malviya wrote on X- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is playing with fire. Mamta is using Humayun Kabir to polarize Muslim sentiments. Beldanga is one of the sensitive areas of the state. There is a long and turbulent history of clashes here. If unrest spreads here, the internal unity and national security of the state may be at risk.

28 November: Posters of the foundation stone of Babri Masjid were seen at many places in Beldanga, Murshidabad. It was written – The foundation stone laying ceremony of Babri Masjid will be held in Beldanga on 6th December. Humayun Kabir was mentioned as the organizer on the poster. After this the controversy increased. BJP opposed it, while Congress leaders supported it.
3 December: TMC distanced itself from the matter. Said in the statement – The party has no connection with this announcement of Kabir. Another party leader said- Humayun Kabir has created this controversy so that he can get a ticket in the assembly elections from Rethnagar seat. Humayun is currently MLA from Bharatpur seat of Murshidabad.
4 December: Seeing the matter escalating, TMC suspended MLA Humayun Kabir. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said- The party does not believe in communal politics. On party action, Humayun said- I stand by my Babri Masjid statement. I will also announce my new party on 22nd December. I will field candidates on 135 seats in the assembly elections. I will contest against both of them (TMC and BJP).
Timeline of Babri demolition in Ayodhya (1992-2025), 6 points
1992- On 6 December, the disputed structure of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri in Ayodhya was demolished by Kar Sevaks.
2003- The report of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) claimed to have found a temple-like structure at the site of the Babri structure. The Muslim side challenged this.
2010- On September 30, Allahabad High Court’s decision came, in which it was ordered to divide the disputed land into three parts. The matter reached the Supreme Court.
2019- On November 9, the Supreme Court said in its decision that the disputed land of 2.77 acres is the birthplace of Ram Lalla. Ordered to give 5 acres of land to the Muslim side for the Babri structure.
2020- On August 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan for the construction of Ram temple.
2024- Ramlala was consecrated on 22 January. The darshan of Ramlala’s sanctum sanctorum formally began.
Construction of the proposed mosque has not started even after 6 years
Following the Supreme Court decision in 2019, a 5-acre alternative land was allotted to the Muslim side in Dhannipur village of Sohawal tehsil in Ayodhya, about 25 km from the Ram temple. However, its construction has not started yet.
According to the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF), construction of a mosque and community facilities was proposed on the proposed land. However, the layout plan of the mosque has not been approved by the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA). That means government departments have not given NOC.
