Swedish league game postponed after fans throw fireworks onto field

London London. A Stockholm football derby that could potentially decide the Swedish league title race was postponed in the second half on Sunday after Djurgården supporters threw several firecrackers onto the field. The game between Hammarby and Djurgården is set to restart without fans on Monday afternoon, after police decided that sports organizers could not guarantee public safety if it restarted.

Hammarby are second in the league table and lead 2-0, with a draw handing the title to rivals Malmö with three rounds remaining. Djurgården is level on points with Hammarby, and a win would give either team a mathematical chance of overtaking Malmö. Djurgården supporters set off several fireworks with about 15 minutes remaining in the game and the teams were escorted off the field for about 50 minutes before the decision was made to end the game without fans in the stands. But some supporters refused to leave, and police later announced that the game would have to be played on Monday.
