Sweets are not the only culprit! Know those 5 things which are secretly increasing your blood sugar level – ..

News India Live, Digital Desk: Living with diabetes takes discipline. Often, when our sugar report comes out high, we are surprised and think, “I didn’t even eat laddus or drank tea without sugar, then how did this level increase?”

This is where we get defeated. In fact, ‘sugar’ or ‘sweets’ are not your only enemy in diabetes. There are many things in our kitchen which taste salty, or which look ‘healthy’, but as soon as they reach our blood, they send sugar rising like a rocket.

Let us know about those things from which you should keep some distance:

1. Flour and its products (white poison):
It seems very normal to eat biscuits or white bread with tea in the morning. But flour gets converted into glucose very quickly in your body. Even if the biscuit is salty, it spikes the blood sugar level rapidly. Instead of this, give preference to oats or multigrain items.

2. White Rice:
In India, food seems incomplete without rice, but it is a big challenge for diabetes patients. White rice has very little fiber, due to which it gets digested quickly and the sugar level in the body increases immediately. If you’re a rice lover, try ‘brown rice’ or include lots of green vegetables and lentils with your rice.

3. Packaged Juices and Drinks:
Often we think that fruit juice is very healthy, but all the fiber is taken out from canned juice. What’s left is just lots of sugar and fructose. It is better to chew the fruit as the fiber present in it helps in absorbing the sugar slowly.

4. Eating too much fried food:
Kachori, samosas or French fries… the mouth waters just by hearing their names. But the bad fat (Trans fat) present in it reduces the effect of insulin in the body. When insulin does not work properly, sugar starts increasing in the blood.

5. Too many sweet fruits:
Yes, fruits are good, but fruits like mango, sapota or grapes contain very high amount of ‘natural sugar’. It is not forbidden to eat them, but it is very important to keep in mind the quantity. Try to eat only a little at a time.

Useful thing:
Just thinking about ‘what not to eat’ is not enough. You also have to look at ‘how to eat’. Eat salad with food, chew food slowly and take a walk for 15 minutes after eating. These small changes will always help in keeping your sugar chart normal.
