Swiggy: Foodtech company Swiggy has decided to shut down its well-known app, Snacc. This app promised to deliver food in just 10 minutes and was launched around a year ago. The company struggled to grow the business and wasn’t turning a profit, which led to the decision to close Snacc. A report mentioned that Swiggy found it challenging to turn orders into profits with this model. This information was shared in an internal email on February 19th.
Snacc started as a pilot project, providing services only in Bengaluru and Gurugram. There’s no information available yet on how many orders Snacc received or the revenue it generated. Reports suggest that Snacc’s competitor, BlinkIt Bistro, has faced losses of about Rs 150 crore (around Rs 1.5 billion) over nine months.
What did Snack offer?
Snacc provides breakfast items, coffee, bakery goods, snacks, cold beverages, and more. It was launched as a pilot in January 2025, coinciding with the rising trend of 10-minute and 15-minute food deliveries. Swiggy’s rival, Blinkit, also introduced a separate app called “Bistro” for 15-minute food delivery, while Zepto launched “Zepto Cafe.”
Swiggy is still facing ongoing losses
The parent company of Snacc, Swiggy, has been reporting losses for several quarters now. Media reports indicate that Swiggy’s net loss grew by 33% year-on-year in the third quarter (from October 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025). It was reported that the company faced a loss of Rs 1,065 crore during this time. In the same period last year (from October 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024), the loss was Rs 799 crore.
A few weeks ago, the central government asked representatives of quick-commerce platforms to remove the 10-minute delivery deadline amid concerns about the safety of gig workers. The Gig and Platform Service Workers Union (GPSW) called for a strike on December 31st to raise collective demands for the rights, well-being, and dignity of gig and platform workers across India. The 10-minute delivery model, while popular, often posed significant risks to delivery and gig workers.
What will happen to Snacc employees?
Snacc was being run as a pilot project only in Bengaluru and Gurugram. It did not expand much in 12 months. Swiggy has said that the affected employees will be adjusted in other teams within the next 48 hours. “We are integrating the employees into our various businesses and will provide them with transition support,” the email read.
