Metro cities are the most affected.
Information is coming to light that the biggest impact of the strike was in Gurugram and many areas of Delhi-NCR, where quick-commerce deliveries came to a complete halt at some places. In many cases, the apps were taking orders but could not fulfill them due to lack of delivery partners.
What are the gig workers demanding? (What demands are gig workers making?)
The main reason for the strike is promises like 10 minutes delivery. The union argues that such ultra-fast delivery targets force delivery partners to drive unsafely on congested city roads. Additionally, the union’s demands include scheduled rest breaks, a transparent incentive system, minimum payment per order and social security benefits like accident insurance and health coverage.
Apart from this, gig workers allege that despite the increase in the number of orders, the actual earnings of delivery workers are decreasing. Incentives are being reduced, penalties are being imposed for delays, and the process of distributing orders through algorithms is not transparent.
