Switzerland Blast: There was a massive explosion in Crans-Montana, Switzerland on New Year. Many people are reported to have died in this blast. Several people were killed and several injured in an explosion at a bar in the luxury alpine ski resort town of Crans Montana, Swiss police said Thursday morning.

“There was an explosion of unknown origin. Many people have been injured, and many people have died,” Gaetan Lathien, a police spokesman in the Valais canton in southwestern Switzerland, told AFP. He said the blast occurred at about 1:30 a.m. (0030 GMT) at a bar called Le Constellation, popular with tourists, as people were celebrating the New Year. “The rescue operation is still going on,” he said. Pictures published by Swiss media showed a building on fire and emergency services nearby.
