Sword Marin becomes the coach of Indian women’s hockey team, Harendra Singh on leave
Sjoerd Marin has been made the head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team. Hockey India gave this responsibility to this former hockey player from Netherlands on Friday (January 2). Marin will take over as the head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team for the second time. Earlier, during his tenure as coach, the Indian women’s team had finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics.
Marin has been appointed as the head coach in place of Harendra Singh. Harendra had to resign due to the disappointing performance of the team and allegations of arbitrariness in coaching.

He also entered the coaching setup
51-year-old Marin was associated with the Indian women’s team from 2017 to 2021. After 5 years, confidence has been reposed in him once again. Marin’s support staff will also include Matias Villa, who has been appointed analytical coach. Wayne Lombard is also returning to the Indian hockey team, who will work as Scientific Advisor and Athletic Performance Head.
In a press release issued by Hockey India, Marin said, ‘It feels great to be back in India. I have returned to this position after four and a half years with new energy and clear vision, so that I can make a significant contribution in taking the team forward and help the players perform to their full potential on the world stage.

Marin had changed the attitude of the women’s team
Marin is credited with uniting the Indian women’s team. When he was the coach, there was such an atmosphere in the team where the players felt happy in each other’s success. Marin stepped down as coach immediately after the Tokyo Olympics citing family reasons. During Marin’s previous tenure, India had joined the top-10 in the world rankings.
