T20 World Cup 2026: Abhishek Sharma fails again, Manoj Tiwary shows class

Young batsman Abhishek Sharma’s bat seems to be silent so far in the T20 World Cup 2026. After facing a hat-trick duck in the first three matches, he could not play a big innings even in the do-or-die match against West Indies. When Team India was chasing the target of 196 runs, he was expected to make a significant contribution, but he was out after scoring 11 runs in 10 balls.

Manoj Tiwari expressed his displeasure

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary openly reacted to Abhishek Sharma’s performance. He said,
“He has become a star in a very short time, but if he wants to become a superstar, the team will have to win matches. There is tremendous competition in India and there are many match-winning players. He will have to prove himself further.” Tiwari also clarified that the team management is not angry with Abhishek at the moment and he has complete freedom to play.

Questions raised on shot selection

Manoj Tiwari also expressed concern about Abhishek’s shot selection. He said,
“When you don’t understand the value of your wicket, you play loose shots like this. He had a good chance against the West Indies, but had a bad day. He also dropped two catches in the field.” However, Tiwari also admitted that Abhishek has the potential and he can compensate for that by scoring runs quickly even after playing a few dot balls.

Caught in the spin of Akil Hussain

In the match against West Indies, Abhishek could not maintain his rhythm despite hitting two fours and lost his wicket to spinner Akeal Hosein. However, Team India achieved the target of 196 runs. The hero of this victory was Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten 97 runs and got India a ticket to the semi-finals. Now it will be interesting to see whether Abhishek Sharma is able to return to his form in the next matches or not.
