T20 World Cup 2026: Afghanistan and two other teams almost out of the race for Super 8, what is India’s position?
New Delhi. Last time semi-finalist in T20 World Cup 2026, Afghanistan team seems to be almost out of the race for Super 8 this time. Afghanistan’s hopes have become quite weak after losing to New Zealand in its first match in the league phase and to South Africa in the second match. Apart from Afghanistan, Ireland and USA have also lost two matches each and it now seems difficult for these three teams to enter the Super 8. Officially no team has been eliminated yet, but only teams with at least three wins will be able to move ahead.
Afghanistan played a do-or-die match against South Africa on Wednesday leading to a double super over but lost. After this defeat, the team’s Super 8 hopes have reduced even more.
In Group A, Pakistan has captured the top with 4 points by winning its first two matches. India are placed second after defeating USA in their first match. Netherlands have won one out of 2 matches and are placed third, while Namibia has lost one match. USA is at the last position after losing the first two matches.
In Group B, Australia has secured the number one position by defeating Ireland badly in the first match. Zimbabwe has taken the second position by defeating Oman, while Sri Lanka has also taken the third position by defeating Ireland. Ireland is in fourth place after losing two matches and Oman has played only one match so far, which it had to lose, hence it is in last place.
In Group C, West Indies have topped with 4 points after winning two out of two matches. Scotland and England are placed second and third respectively, having won one out of two matches. Nepal has lost one match and is at the fourth position, while Italy also played one match and had to lose, hence it is at the bottom.
New Zealand has topped Group D by winning both its matches. South Africa is also in second place after winning 2 out of 2 matches. Afghanistan is in third place after losing two matches. UAE played one match and lost it, while Canada also lost one match and finished last.
Only the top two teams from each group will enter the Super 8, so the journey ahead has become very difficult for the teams of Afghanistan, Ireland and USA.
