T20 World Cup 2026 : Zimbabwe has confirmed its place in the Super 8 round of T20 World Cup 2026. After the cancellation of the Ireland match, Zimbabwe has booked a ticket to the Super-8 round for the first time in the World Cup tournament. Zimbabwe booked their ticket to the next round after the Ireland match in Pallekele was cancelled. On Tuesday, the toss could not be held in the Zimbabwe vs Ireland Group B match due to rain. Due to cancellation of the match, both the teams had to share one point each. Zimbabwe is the second team from Group B to advance to the next stage. This happened to Australia after 17 years

Australia is out of the group stage of the tournament after 17 years. Australia was earlier eliminated from the group stage in the 2009 T20 World Cup. 2021 T20 World Cup winners Australia’s hopes for the next stage were pinned on Ireland’s victory but luck was not on their side. Australia had to face defeat in its last two matches. Sri Lanka defeated the Kangaroo team by eight wickets. At the same time, Zimbabwe caused a big upset by defeating Australia by 23 runs. Australia’s only win so far came against Ireland. Australia has to face Oman (20 February) in its last group match. Zimbabwe team will now face Sri Lanka

Zimbabwe’s performance so far in the tournament has been excellent. Its three fast bowlers Richard Ngarawa, Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans took three wickets each and bowled out Oman for only 103 runs in their first match played in Colombo. Their batsmen, led by Brian Bennett (48 not out), needed only 13.3 overs to win by eight wickets. After this, Zimbabwe scored 169 runs for two wickets against Australia and then bowled out the Kangaroo team for just 146 runs. Opener Bennett once again performed brilliantly with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 64 runs, while Muzarabani and Evans displayed excellent bowling performance, taking four and three wickets respectively. Zimbabwe will play its last group match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on 19 February.
