T20 World Cup 2026: Bangladesh again refused to play in India in front of ICC, know what will happen next?
New Delhi: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has once again made it clear that it is not in favor of sending its national team to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In the recent meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC), BCB reiterated its earlier stand citing security reasons. This issue is no longer limited to sports only, but is becoming a big international cricket topic due to administrative and security concerns.
Important meeting with ICC and BCCI
On Tuesday afternoon, a meeting was held between BCB, ICC and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through video conference. The objective of this meeting was to discuss Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 and the systemic aspects related to it. BCB President Mohammad Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Mohammad Shakwat Hussain and Farooq Ahmed, Cricket Steering Committee Director and Chairman Nazmul Abedin and Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chaudhary attended the meeting. It was clear from this high level meeting how seriously BCB is taking this issue.
BCB blunt on security concerns
During the discussion, BCB clearly said that considering the current circumstances, it is not satisfied with the safety of players in India. The board also reiterated that its primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of its players, team officials and support staff. For this reason, BCB requested the ICC to consider the possibility of organizing Bangladesh’s matches at some other place outside India.
ICC’s response
ICC informed in the meeting that the schedule and guidelines related to organizing the T20 World Cup 2026 have already been decided. ICC officials urged BCB to reconsider its decision and assured that necessary steps will be taken for the safety of the players. Despite this, the BCB remained firm on its stand and said that it would not change its decision until it was guaranteed complete security.
Agreed to continue dialogue
Although both sides could not reach any concrete conclusion, BCB and ICC have agreed to continue the talks. The objective is to find a solution that is acceptable to all and the reputation of the global tournament is also maintained.
