Can both semi-finals be held on the same day? Know what the ICC rules say
T20 World Cup 2026 Semi Final: t20 world cup 2026 4 teams have been confirmed for the semi-finals. The semi-finals are starting from 4th March. The first semi-final will be played between South Africa and New Zealand at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. After this, the second semi-final match will be played between India and England on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Both the matches will start at 7 pm Indian time. Now it is a do or die situation for all four teams. Now the big question is that if the semi-final match to be held on March 4 is cancelled, then will both the semi-finals be played together on March 5?
Can both matches be held on the same day?
Considering the importance of knockout matches, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has implemented special rules. To ensure that the match is not affected by rain or bad weather, a reserve day has been kept for both the semi-finals. If the first semi-final is not completed on March 4, it will be played on March 5. Similarly, if the match on March 5 is affected, it will be made up the next day. Interestingly, if the first semi-final is shifted to the reserve day, then both the semi-finals can be played on March 5. However, in such a situation the timing of the matches will be kept different.
According to ICC rules, play on the reserve day will start at 3 pm. This will not have much impact on both the matches and fans will be able to enjoy both the matches without any hindrance. Extra time is also given on the reserve day, so that the result of the match can be declared in any situation.
Will the final be affected?
This provision of ICC has been made so that there is no impact on the scheduled final date of the tournament. Special care has been taken to ensure that no team suffers losses due to weather in the knockout stage. The final will also be played under similar rules. At present, all eyes are on the semi-final matches.
