T20 World Cup 2026 final: Who wins if India vs New Zealand final is abandoned due to rain?

The T20 World Cup 2026 final will see India taking on New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav’s squad is aiming to defend their title. India edged past England in the semi-final to reach the title match, becoming the third nation after Pakistan and Sri Lanka to play successive finals. Despite India’s form, New Zealand continue to be a challenging team and are unbeaten in previous T20 World Cup clashes with India.

As the T20 World Cup final approaches, questions about rain interruptions are bound to attract the limelight. According to the ICC rules, the officials will try to complete the contest on March 8 but if the proceedings are left incomplete, there is a reserve day.

The match will start from where it was stopped instead of a new game. If rain still prevents result on the reserve day, both sides will be declared the winners.

If the match ends in a tie, the winner will be decided after a Super Over, with each team getting six extra deliveries to bat and bowl. If the first Super Over also finishes in a deadlock, additional Super Overs will be played for the outcome.

This change was implemented following the controversial finish of the 2019 ODI World Cup final. Previously, only one Super Over was used, and if it was tied, the team with more boundaries was declared the winner.
