T20 World Cup 2026: South Africa to face New Zealand after semi-final defeat, 4 young players to debut
After losing in the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup, South Africa faced the team in their first T20 International match on Sunday, March 15. In this match, South Africa faced the same team that knocked them out in the semi-finals with a resounding defeat. However, South Africa’s playing eleven looked completely changed, with four players making their international debuts at the same time.
In fact, when the South African team took the field for the first match of the five-match T20 International series against New Zealand, captain Keshav Maharaj announced during the toss that four players were making their international debut. Only seven players in the team had previously played international cricket. Surprisingly, only three of South Africa’s 15-man squad were named in the 2026 T20 World Cup squad.

Retiring players
Wickets Conor Esterhuizen, Jordan Harman, Diane Forrester and Nkobani Mokoena are making their international debuts. Meanwhile, Nick Kelly, who previously played ODI cricket, is making his T20 international debut for New Zealand. Thus, the South African team looks completely new.
If we talk about the players who have played for South Africa in T20 World Cup and are part of this team, they include Keshav Maharaj, Jason Smith and George Linde. Apart from this, the rest of the players are either new or have played for South Africa before. Key players are not available as they have already played in the tournament and now almost all will be seen in IPL.
