Planning changed! This legend’s place is in danger due to the arrival of Washington Sundar, understand the new masterplan against Pakistan

Discussions regarding the team combination have intensified before the match between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. There is news that spin all-rounder Washington Sundar may return to the playing eleven. He was injured in the first match of the ODI series against New Zealand at the beginning of the year, after which he was out of the team. Now if they get a chance, some player may have to sit out.

Gavaskar gave important advice

Great Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has suggested to the team management to consider including Sundar in the match against Pakistan. This match is to be played on 15 February at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Till now, India had given the responsibility of spin department to Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel in the first two matches of the tournament. Sundar has not yet got a chance to play in this tournament, but considering the conditions of the pitch, a change is considered possible.

Talk of giving chance to Sundar in place of Arshdeep

Gavaskar believes that the Colombo pitch can prove helpful for spin bowlers. In such a situation, he suggested that an additional spinner could be considered in the team in place of fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. Although Arshdeep has taken a total of two wickets in both the matches played so far, the strategy can be changed considering the team combination and pitch condition.

Reason behind inclusion of Sundar

Gavaskar said during the conversation that if the pitch is favorable for spin, then India should start the bowling with Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah and include Sundar in the playing eleven. He also said that Sundar is not only a useful spin bowler but also a left-handed batsman, who has the ability to score runs quickly coming down the order. Getting batting depth up to number eight can prove beneficial for the team in big matches.
