T20 World Cup 2026: Will India and Pakistan come face to face again? Pakistan will have to win this match to reach Super-8
India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in a high-voltage match of the T20 World Cup 2026 played in Colombo on Sunday, 15 February. With this victory, Team India registered its third consecutive win in the tournament and secured a place in the Super-8. Earlier, the Indian team had also defeated America and Namibia. The special thing was that this was India’s eighth victory against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup history. The team’s performance under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav was excellent.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s path has become difficult due to this defeat. Now to reach the Super-8, it will have to win the next match against Namibia at any cost. In such a situation, there is a big question in the minds of cricket fans – can India and Pakistan come face to face once again in this tournament?
What are equations called?
If Pakistan beats Namibia, it can qualify for the Super-8 by finishing second in Group A. But despite this, it will not face India in the Super-8 stage. Actually, 20 teams have been divided into four groups—A, B, C and D—in the tournament. The top two teams from each group will reach the Super-8. After this, these eight teams will be divided into two new groups, where matches will be held in round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals.
Before the tournament, ICC had done pre-seeding, under which India was given X1 slot and Pakistan was given Y3 slot. Other teams include England (Y1), Australia (X2), New Zealand (Y2), West Indies (X3), South Africa (X4) and Sri Lanka (Y4). According to this arrangement, India and Pakistan will be in different groups in Super-8, hence their clash is not possible in this stage.
Clash in semi-finals or finals?
India and Pakistan can compete in the semi-finals only if one team is first in its group and the other is second in its group. If both the teams top their respective groups or both finish second, then they will not face each other in the semi-finals. However, if both the teams finish top in their respective groups in the Super-8 and reach the finals, then a great fight can be seen in the title match. In the history of the T20 World Cup, the two teams have met in the final only once so far—in 2007, when India registered a historic win. Overall, India-Pakistan match is not possible in Super-8, but cricket lovers can get to see another exciting match in the semi-finals or final.
