T20 World Cup: After the loss to Sri Lanka, Oman captain expressed regret over lack of experience…
Oman captain Jatinder Singh rued his team’s lack of experience at the higher level of international cricket against Test-playing nations after his side’s 105-run defeat in the ICC T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Thursday. Jatinder Singh said that his team does not have much experience of playing against big countries, due to which they are facing challenges in tough matches.
Let us tell you, with the help of half-centuries from Kusal Mendis and captain Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka scored a huge score of 226 runs. Brilliant bowling spells from spinner Mahesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage and pacer Dushmantha Chameera put Oman in trouble. During the post-match presentation, Oman captain Jatinder Singh talked about the team’s lack of experience and the team’s best efforts. “We didn’t learn much from the first game, but today we were always in the game. Sri Lanka put pressure on us and 225 was a bit much,” he said.
Jatinder further said, “We lack experience. We have only 4-5 players who have played more than 40 T20I matches. Sadly, we do not get many matches against big countries. Our coaches and management are trying their best, but we are missing T20 experience.”
At the same time, Sri Lankan captain Shanaka praised the bowling department of the team and emphasized the importance of injured spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury, and Dushan Hemantha got the chance in his place. “It is difficult to replace a player like Wanindu, but Dushan Hemantha has played before and we are hopeful that he will perform well in the next game,” Shanaka said.
The Sri Lankan captain also praised the brilliant innings of Kusal Mendis. He said, “I am very happy with the way Kusal batted in the last two matches. He should have a similar role in the next match also.”
Player of the Match Pawan Rathnayake talked about his favorite batting style, the supportive environment of the team and trying his best in the next match. “I like to play spin, but I always try to save my style. We will try our best in the next match,” Rathnayake said.
Sri Lanka gave a big target of 226 runs to Oman through the brilliant innings of Mendis (61 runs in 45 balls), Rathnayake (60 runs in 28 balls), and captain Shanaka (50 runs in 20 balls). Oman’s batsmen found it difficult to face the Sri Lankan bowlers, especially the brilliant bowling of Mahesh Theekshana (11 runs and 2 wickets in 4 overs). Oman collapsed to 120/9 and Sri Lanka won the match by 105 runs.
