Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 5 runs, but out of the semi-finals

Colombo. In the 50th match of ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and the important match of Super-8, Pakistan team won against Sri Lanka. The match was held at the Playkele International Cricket Stadium, where Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 5 runs. Although Pakistan won the match, New Zealand managed to make it to the semi-finals, as both teams had equal points, but the Kiwi team had a better net run rate than Pakistan.

Pakistan’s innings

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan scored 212 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. The most prominent batsman for Pakistan in this match was Sahibzada Farhan, who played a brilliant innings of 100 runs off 60 balls. Fakhar Zaman also added a good 84 runs off 42 balls.

Sri Lanka’s answer

In reply, the Sri Lankan team could only score 207 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Dasun Shanka played a brilliant innings of 76 runs off 31 balls, but even his effort was not enough for the team to win. Pawan Ratnayake scored 58 runs off 37 balls, while Kamil Mishara and Charat Asilaka scored 26 and 25 runs respectively.

Pakistan’s best bowling performance was Abraar Ahmed, who gave away 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Nawaz also took one wicket each.

Sri Lanka’s bowling performance

For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madhushanka took 3 wickets, while Dasun Shanka took 2 wickets.

After this defeat, the Pakistan team is out of the semi-final race, as they needed to win the match by 64 runs to advance to the next stage.
