T20 World Cup final lost to rain, so which team will become champion?

The final match of ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is to be played on Sunday (8 March) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in which the teams of India and New Zealand are going to face each other. The Indian team is eyeing to become T20 World Cup champion for the second consecutive time. If Team India is successful in winning the title, then it will become the first team in the world to become T20 World Cup champion twice consecutively.

India has won two titles so far. Team India became champion in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Whereas Rohit Sharma had won the title in the last edition. The Indian team has also lost one final. He had to face defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in 2014. This will be the fourth final of Team India, while the Kiwi team will enter the title match for the second time. New Zealand had earlier reached the final in 2021, where it was defeated by Australia.

Will it rain in the final?

There is no danger of rain on the day of the final in Ahmedabad. The weather will be clear at the time of the match. The temperature is likely to be around 23 degrees Celsius. The wind will blow at a speed of 9 km per hour. According to the latest weather forecast, forget the rain… there is no chance of the sky being even cloudy. If it rains, it will be an unexpected event.

In case of rain, the match will be played on reserve day but before that, efforts will be made to get the result on Sunday itself. For this it is necessary to have a match of at least 10-10 overs. According to ICC rules, an additional time of 2 hours will be given to complete the match.

What if the match does not take place even on the reserve day?

If the reserve day is also completely washed out by rain, India and New Zealand will be declared joint winners. This has happened only once in the history of the ICC tournament, when the title match has been washed out due to rain. The 2002 Champions Trophy final played between India and Sri Lanka was washed out, after which the trophy was shared.
