T20 World Cup: India’s 8th historic victory over Pakistan, new record
In the 27th match of the T20 World Cup 2026 played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs. With this victory, India registered its eighth win against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, which is a unique record for the most wins against a single team.
There have been nine T20 World Cup matches between India and Pakistan so far, out of which India won eight. These include a win in a super over. Pakistan had its only success in 2021.
Australia (vs Bangladesh), Pakistan (vs Bangladesh), Sri Lanka (vs West Indies) and West Indies (vs England) jointly occupy the second place in this record.
Batting first, India scored 175 runs for seven wickets. Ishan Kishan played a brilliant inning of 77 runs in 40 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. Captain Suryakumar Yadav added 25 runs. Chasing the target, Pakistan collapsed to 114 in 18 overs. Usman Khan scored 44 and Shaheen Afridi scored 23 not out.
By securing its third consecutive win in the tournament, India secured a place in the Super-8. After defeating USA by 29 runs and Namibia by 93 runs, now the last match of the group is left against Netherlands on 18th February.
With this defeat, Pakistan slipped to third place in Group-A. Despite defeating Netherlands and USA, the defeat at the hands of India put them in trouble. USA is on top with two wins from four. Pakistan will need to win over Namibia on February 18 to qualify for the Super-8.
