T20 World Cup: Team India selection today… Robin Uthappa said this about Yashasvi Jaiswal

New Delhi. The Indian team is to be selected today for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Chief selector Ajit Agar can announce the team along with captain Suryakumar Yadav in a press conference at 1:30 pm today. The decision of which 15 players will shine in the upcoming T20 World Cup will be taken this afternoon, but before that there are many questions which are running in everyone’s mind. The biggest question among these is that everyone is engaged in the debate of Shubman Gill vs Sanju Samson as the opening partner of Abhishek Sharma, but no one is talking about Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is one of India’s best players in this format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played his last T20I match for India in 2024. In the same year when India won the T20 World Cup title, he was a part of the World Cup team led by Rohit Sharma, but due to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening, he did not get a chance to play a single match.

After the T20 World Cup 2024, there was a great opportunity to fix Yashasvi Jaiswal in the opening slot, but then he was dropped from the team. After this, he scored runs in domestic cricket, but could not make a place in India’s T20 team.

When 2007 T20 World Cup winner Robin Uthappa was asked about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s selection in the T20 World Cup squad, he clearly said that it has now been delayed. If now a new opener comes into the World Cup squad, it will only create confusion.

With 50 days left for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup India and Sri Lanka 2026, JioStar expert Robin Uthappa said in the JioStar press room, ‘I think at this time we will bring a new name, within this team discussion, if someone is there due to injury, I think it can increase the confusion.’

Robin Uthappa further said, ‘Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were a working opening partnership, which was changed… Shubhman Gill got that opportunity… They are still testing whether this (Gill-Abhishek) partnership will work or not. That decision has not been taken yet. Robin Uthappa says that if another name is thrown into the discussion at this time, be it Rituraj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Vaibhav Suryavanshi… it will only increase the confusion.

This former player, who was a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning team, said, ‘Now it remains to be seen who is going to open with Abhishek Sharma. Sanju Samson or Shubman Gill. For now I think it is a little too late to look towards Yashasvi Jaiswal.
