Tahura Khatoon, who created history in Asian U-20, has a big goal, now keeping an eye on World Championship and Olympic gold

Kolkata. West Bengal’s young athlete Tahura Khatoon, who achieved historic success in the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championship, has now made her next goal clear. He said that his biggest ambition is to win a gold medal in the Olympics, but at the moment his entire focus is on the World Under-20 Athletics Championship to be held in Oregon, USA.

Speaking to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Tahura said that she will participate in the mixed 4×400 meter relay event of the World Championships. He expressed confidence that the entire team will try to win medals on the basis of collective performance and they will also give their best performance for the country.

Tahura Khatoon is currently training at the SAI Eastern Center under the guidance of head coach Sanjay Ghosh and assistant coach Jaspal Singh Pannu. She recently created history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 4×400 meter relay at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championship. On the basis of this achievement he qualified for the World Under-20 Championship.

The young runner said that after the success in the Asian Championship, people’s expectations from her have increased. She told that in the recently held state level competition, she has created a new meet record by winning the gold medal and now she wants to maintain the same rhythm in the world competition also.

Giving credit for his success to SAI and his coaches, Tahura said that for the last five years he has been getting excellent training, diet and every necessary facility here. According to him, this cooperation has played an important role in him reaching the international level.

Recalling his early struggles, he said that due to financial difficulties it was not easy for the family to afford training. However, his life changed after his selection in SAI. Tahura expressed hope that his achievements will inspire youth across the country including West Bengal to take up athletics.
