Famous Bengali film actress Subhashree Ganguly shared some of her pictures with world famous football player Lionel Messi on social media. These pictures were taken during Messi’s ‘GOAT India Tour 2025’ in Kolkata. But after these pictures went viral, Subhashree had to face a lot of criticism and trolling online. The trolling became so extreme that his young children even started receiving death threats.

This whole controversy started from the event held at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday. More than 60,000 fans had gathered there to see Messi. But the crowd was not controlled properly, due to which there was chaos. Angry fans started throwing bottles and chairs. Messi had to be quickly evacuated from the stadium and the event lasted only 20 minutes. The fans were very disappointed because they could not even see Messi properly.

The actress told the whole matter

Subhashree gave her clarification by sharing a video on Instagram. She told that she had received an official invitation and she had gone to represent the Bengali film industry. She reached the hotel at around 8:30 in the morning, where she met Messi for the first time. He got the pictures clicked between 10:00 am and 10:15 am. When she was leaving the hotel, Messi’s PR team asked her to accompany him to the stadium for security and travel convenience.

By the time Messi reached the stadium at around 11:30, the situation there had become tense. Subhashree was sitting in a tent and she could not see Messi properly even from a distance. He clearly said that the organizers are responsible for all this mess. She asks, ‘Was I standing on the field? Or was she blocking someone’s view? Hearing the criticism, it felt as if I was standing on the field next to Messi and posing. Is it wrong to go to a hotel and get pictures taken? If the photos were posted at the wrong time, it may have been due to a technical glitch.

Children received death threats

Initially Subhashree ignored the criticism, because she understood that the fans were venting their anger emotionally. But when the trolling became too much and her children started receiving threats, she felt it necessary to speak out. Being a mother she cannot tolerate such threats. Her husband Raj Chakraborty (who is also a filmmaker and MLA) also supported her and lodged a police complaint against the trolls.
