Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Delhi Visit: Meeting with Sonia-Rahul
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay returned without meeting Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi during his first visit to Delhi. After this development, many speculations have intensified in political circles.
New Delhi: The recent visit of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to Delhi has created a new stir in national politics. During his first official visit to Delhi, Chief Minister Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, but he could not meet the top Congress leadership. After this development, many speculations are being made in the political circles, especially as to why the meeting could not be held with the Congress leadership.
Why was there no meeting with the Congress leadership?
According to sources, a meeting was planned with senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Even an informal breakfast meeting was proposed by Rahul Gandhi, but the event got canceled at the last moment. Although no clear reason has been officially revealed for this change, political analysts are linking it to the current political circumstances of the state and the Centre.
There is also discussion in political circles that some regional issues and water-resource disputes between states may have affected the meeting. There has been a long standing tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, especially over the Kaveri River and the Mekedatu Dam Project. According to reports, Chief Minister Vijay has expressed his concern about the Mekedatu project to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed not to approve the DPR (Detailed Project Report) of this project.
Mekedatu project becomes center of political controversy
Mekedatu Project is a proposed dam project on the Arkavathi River in Ramanagara district of Karnataka. This issue has long been a cause of dispute among South Indian states. The Tamil Nadu government believes that the construction of this dam may reduce the water flow in the Cauvery basin, which will cause harm to the farmers of the state.
In this background, there is also speculation that during the Delhi tour, some scheduled meetings could not be held keeping in mind the political equations. This was the first official visit of Chief Minister Vijay to Delhi, about which there was a lot of excitement in both politics and media. He met the top leadership of the Central Government and discussed several issues related to the state. However, not being able to meet the Congress leadership became the biggest discussion of this tour.
Political analysts believe that this could be just a formal program change, but it is being viewed from different perspectives in national politics.
Second Delhi tour decided, Vijay will visit the national capital again on June 11
According to sources, Tamil Nadu CM Vijay will now visit Delhi once again on June 11. During this visit, he will participate in the important meeting of NITI Aayog. Apart from this, he is also expected to meet many political leaders during this visit. These include discussion of meetings with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and other top leaders.
Besides, it is also being said that this time he can also visit Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), which holds symbolic importance from political and educational point of view.
