News India Live, Digital Desk: The political battle for the throne of power has started in Tamil Nadu. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has geared up for the assembly elections to be held in the year 2026. In this series, BJP has released its much awaited first list of 27 candidates. In this list, the party has presented a unique confluence of experienced leaders and new faces, due to which there has been a stir in the politics of the state. BJP, which is in the AIADMK-led alliance, has fielded its stalwarts on many seats where tough competition can be seen. Big faces have been fielded in the election field, trust is on L Murugan and Tamilisai. The most prominent names in this first list of BJP are of Union Minister L Murugan and former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. The party has fielded L Murugan from Avinashi (SC) seat. At the same time, Tamilisai Sundararajan, who recently returned to active politics, has been given the ticket from Mylapore, a high-profile seat in Chennai. The candidature of these two leaders makes it clear how serious BJP is about its presence in Tamil Nadu and it wants to make inroads among the public through big faces. Annamalai’s name is missing, what is the new strategy of BJP? The most surprising thing in this list is that of State President K. Absence of Annamalai’s name. The market of speculation is hot in the political circles due to the name of Annamalai, considered the face of BJP in Tamil Nadu, not being included in the first list. However, experts believe that the party may keep him safe to field him from a strategic seat or give him greater responsibility of election management. Apart from this, BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanati Srinivasan has been made the candidate from Coimbatore North, which is considered a strong stronghold for the party. Women and youth were given preference, these faces also got a chance. BJP has also taken special care of social equations in its list of 27 candidates. The party has emphasized on women representation by giving tickets to Keerthika Shivakumar from Modkurichi and S Vijayadharani from Vilavancode. Apart from this, Dr. Nagesh Kumar has been fielded from Thali seat and C. Elumalai from Tiruvannamalai. This time, BJP is carrying the agenda of ‘Development’ and ‘Hindutva’ together to create its own place among ‘Dravidian politics’. Voting will be held on 23 April, there is a possibility of triangular contest. Voting for 234 assembly seats of Tamil Nadu is to be held on 23 April 2026. This time the contest in the state is going to be interesting because apart from the ruling DMK alliance and AIADMK-BJP alliance, Thalapathy Vijay’s party TVK is also in the fray. This first list of BJP is clearly indicating that it is betting on experienced shoulders to take the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to every home. Now it remains to be seen how much this ‘election trick’ of BJP is liked by the people of Tamil Nadu.
