Chennai, 6 May. Thalapathy Vijay, chief of the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party, which won the most seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, on Wednesday visited the Raj Bhavan and met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and staked claim to form the government in the state.
Amidst the political turmoil, Governor Arlekar reached Chennai Airport from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala during the day by Indigo Airlines passenger flight. From Chennai airport he went to the Governor House in Guindy. After this, TVK legislature party leader Vijay met the Governor at the Governor House at around 3.30 pm. He submitted a letter to the Governor, in which he officially staked claim to form the government under his leadership.
It is believed that in the letter submitted to the Governor, Vijay said that he has the support of a total of 113 MLAs, which includes 108 TVK MLAs and five Congress MLAs. During the meeting with the Governor, Vijay was accompanied by senior party leaders ‘Bussi’ Anand, KA Sengottaiyan, Nirmal Kumar, Arunraj and Aadhav Arjun.

Government sources also say that Thiru Vijay, who has achieved unprecedented success in his first election attempt after becoming a cine star-turned-politician, can take oath as the Chief Minister on Thursday. For this purpose, preparations have been intensified for the proposed swearing-in ceremony at the 40 thousand capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium located near Chennai Central Suburban Railway Station on Sydenhams Road in Park Town.
Stalin had resigned from the post of CM on Tuesday
Earlier on Tuesday, DMK chief and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met Governor Arlekar and submitted his resignation to him. The Governor had asked Stalin to continue as acting CM till the formation of the new government.
It is noteworthy that Congress has announced its support to TVK for the formation of a secular government in the state. TVK leader Vijay had sought support from the Congress leadership, following which the party high command had directed the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to take a decision keeping in mind the sentiments of the state. In the Congress Legislature Party meeting, the decision to support Vijay was approved with some conditions. Congress was till now part of the DMK-led alliance.
