Tariq Rehman’s strong attack on the fundamentalist thinking of Mohammad Yunus, said – ‘A new Bangladesh will have to be created, in which people of all religions…’

New Delhi. Tariq Rahman, acting president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and son of former PM Khaleda Zia, has returned to Bangladesh after 17 years. Tariq Rahman has returned to Bangladesh amid the violence taking place in the country after the assassination of Osman Hadi, the fundamentalist leader who overthrew the Sheikh Hasina government. Around 1 lakh workers of his party BNP gathered near Dhaka Airport to welcome him. Rahman fled to London in 2008 to avoid arrest. At that time, many corruption cases were going on against him in Hasina government.

Tariq Rahman addressed his supporters as soon as he returned to Bangladesh. During the address, he attacked the thinking of fundamentalist Muhammad Yunus. Starting the address, Tariq Rahman said that today is the time for all of us to be united. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Hindus all live here together. We have to together create a new Bangladesh. Tariq Rahman said in his speech that his wish is that every person of Bangladesh should be safe.

He further said that he thanks Allah by whose grace he could return to his motherland. He said that this is the same land which got independence in 1971 after huge sacrifices. Tariq Rahman said that a similar movement was seen in 2024 also, when on August 5, people stood up and fought to protect the sovereignty of the country.

Rahman referred to Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech

Tariq Rahman mentioned Martin Luther King Jr. during his speech. Referring to Martin Luther’s ‘I have a dream’ speech, Rahman said – We have to protect peace in Bangladesh at all costs. I have a plan for my countrymen.” Martin Luther King Jr. was a famous American Baptist pastor, civil rights activist and leader of the non-violent movement. He is also called Gandhi of America. Taking inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, he fought against racial discrimination and segregation against African-Americans (blacks).

Tariq did a road show before the speech

Standing near the front mirror of the bus on 300 feet road, Tariq waved repeatedly and greeted the supporters present there. As soon as the bus appeared, leaders and workers started raising slogans of “Tariq Zia”. It took more than two hours for Tariq to reach the 300 feet road from the airport.

People desperate to get a glimpse of their leader

A festive atmosphere was visible at the venue where enthusiasm and zeal was clearly visible among the workers. Some people celebrated the return of Tariq Rahman by waving the national flag of Bangladesh, while some carried the party’s election symbol of paddy straws. Many workers were seen in colorful clothes playing drums.

Sheikh Hasina’s party said – the purpose of Tariq’s return is to conduct one-sided elections.

Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League student organization made serious allegations against BNP regarding Tariq’s return. He said that Tariq Rahman’s return home will increase political instability in the country. The only purpose of this withdrawal is to conduct unilateral elections. According to the report, Bangladesh Students League President Saddam Hussain termed it as “fascist politics”. Hussain said that Tariq’s return will not solve Bangladesh’s problems. This will lead to one-sided elections and fascist politics will continue. He is a convicted criminal in several cases related to the 2004 attack and has bypassed judicial processes.
