Tariq Rehman swearing in: Invitation to 13 countries including India

Dhaka has sent formal invitations to 13 countries including India for the swearing-in ceremony of Tariq Rahman. This event to be held on 17 February is being considered an important step towards the new foreign policy of Bangladesh.

New Delhi: With the formation of the new government in Bangladesh, the stir at the international level has intensified. Formal invitations have been sent to a total of 13 countries including India for the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s next Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. The ceremony is scheduled to be held in Dhaka on February 17. This invitation is being considered an important step towards Bangladesh’s new foreign policy and regional balance.

This message from Dhaka reached Indian officials late Saturday night. After this, discussions intensified at the political and diplomatic level in India as to who would represent India in this ceremony.

Special invitation sent to Prime Minister Modi

The Government of Bangladesh has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally attend the swearing-in ceremony. This step is considered important keeping in mind the historical relations between the two countries.

However, according to the available information, it is considered almost impossible for Prime Minister Modi to visit Dhaka himself. The reason behind this is said to be an important international meeting already scheduled.

France trip became a big reason

It is being told that an important meeting of Prime Minister Modi with Emmanuel Macron is scheduled on 17th February itself. The President of France is going to visit India and during this, many strategic issues are to be discussed between the two countries.

For this reason, it is being considered difficult for Prime Minister Modi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh. At the Indian Government level, this is being seen as a conflict of priorities.

Who will go to Dhaka from India?

According to sources, India may send a senior representative to this event. The Vice President or the Foreign Minister is expected to participate in this.

India is trying to maintain balance in relations with Bangladesh and avoid any kind of haste. India seems to be very cautious about the direction and pace of relations with the new government.

Indian policy makers believe that it is important to understand the situation after the change of power in Bangladesh. Therefore, India will definitely give symbolic respect, but strategic decisions will be taken only after careful consideration.

To which countries the invitation was sent

Bangladesh has invited most of the member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation for this swearing-in ceremony. Along with this, invitations have also been sent to the heads of state and government of some major friendly countries. These countries include China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. These invitations clearly indicate that Bangladesh is going to adopt a policy of multilateral balance with the new government.
