Bangladesh swearing-in ceremony: Tariq Rahman becomes the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh, a Hindu face in the cabinet

Bangladesh swearing-in ceremony: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Tariq Rahman, who won the 13th national parliamentary election, took oath as Prime Minister on Tuesday. There will be a total of 25 ministers in the country’s new cabinet, out of which two come from minority communities. Apart from this, there will also be 24 ministers of state in the government. Tariq Rahman and his cabinet are taking oath at the South Plaza of the Parliament complex of Bangladesh.

These include Dr. Khalilur Rehman (Foreign Minister), Salahuddin Ahmed (Home Minister), Dr. Amir Khasru Mahmood (Finance and Planning Minister), Shama Obaid (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs). Nitai Roy Chowdhury, representing the Hindu community, and Chakma Buddhist leader Dipen Dewan have been sworn in.

Invitations were sent to this swearing-in from different countries of the world. From India, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Dhaka to attend, where they received a warm welcome. In Dhaka, he was welcomed by Foreign Ministry Secretary Mohammad Nazrul Islam and Bangladesh High Commissioner Riyaz Hamidullah.

Before the swearing in, BNP President Tariq has been elected the leader of the parliamentary party. This decision was taken unanimously in the meeting of newly elected MPs. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the parliamentary party has decided that BNP MPs will not accept duty-free vehicles or government plots.
He told that we have elected our youth leader Tariq Rehman as the leader of the parliamentary party.
