Tariq Rahman will cancel ordinances Yunus Govt: More than 100 decisions taken by the interim government of Mohammad Yunus will now be canceled in Bangladesh. In fact, the Yunus government had issued a total of 132 ordinances during its one and a half year tenure. Now if these ordinances are not passed by the Parliament within 25 days, they will automatically become void. Some of the decisions in these ordinances are related to India, while some are related to the affairs of the Sheikh Hasina-led party.
According to Bangladesh’s leading newspaper Samakal, the new government of Tariq Rahman is now reviewing these decisions and is planning to get some of them passed by the Parliament. In this process most of the decisions will be automatically canceled.
India’s efforts to improve relations
At the same time, as soon as Yunus left power, India has started taking steps towards improving its relations with Bangladesh. India had stopped visa service for Bangladesh on December 17, but now it has been decided to restart it.
What kind of decisions will be canceled?
According to contemporary reports, the government of Mohammad Yunus had issued 132 ordinances related to reforms, crackdown and foreign policy. Now Tariq Rehman’s party is reviewing these decisions. All reform-related ordinances will be repealed, and the ordinances that sparked controversy will not be carried forward.
Apart from this, some bans related to Sheikh Hasina’s party may also be lifted, as Awami League activities have resumed in many districts after the elections. It is being said that Awami League will now be active in opposition politics. Some ordinances related to the July Uprising are also being reviewed, which may be considered to be changed.
First blow was given on July charter
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had refused to accept the July Charter after winning the elections. The party’s MPs did not take the oath as constitutional reform members during the swearing-in, and this first attempt to implement the July Charter failed. According to Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Chowdhury, BNP members have now been elected to the Parliament, and the decision on this will be taken in the Parliament.

The July Charter is a proposal to amend the Constitution of Bangladesh, under which no person will be able to hold the office of Prime Minister for more than two terms or for more than 10 years. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will not have the right to appoint judges. Yunus government had also organized a referendum on this, but BNP refused to accept it.
