Taskin Ahmed Withdraws From LPL: Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has withdrawn his name from the currently ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026. He has taken this decision to better prepare for the two-match Test series against Australia in August.
Taskin was to play for Jaffna Kings in LPL and for this he also got No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Full focus will be on Australia tour
Bangladesh team is going to play a two-match Test series in Australia for the first time since 2003. This series is also part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, so Taskin left franchise cricket and gave priority to the national team.
Decision changed after Zimbabwe series
Ahmed Taskin’s initial plan was that he would not play the T20 series against Zimbabwe and would go straight to Sri Lanka to participate in the LPL. But after the injury to fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, he remained with the Bangladesh team.
‘Australia Test series do not come again and again’
Talking about his decision, Taskin Ahmed said, ‘I have withdrawn my name from LPL because my entire focus is on preparing for the Australia Test series. If I had played LPL after playing six consecutive matches in Zimbabwe and then gone straight to Australia, my Test preparation would have been affected.’
He further said, ‘I will definitely suffer financial loss by leaving LPL, but I don’t get a chance to play Test series in Australia very often. Therefore, despite getting the NOC, I have decided to withdraw from the tournament.’

Test series will start from August 13
The first Test between Bangladesh and Australia will be played in Darwin city of Australia from 13 to 17 August, while the second Test will be held in Mackay from 22 to 26 August. Taskin Ahmed’s role in the difficult conditions of Australia is considered very important for Bangladesh and that is why he gave more importance to the responsibility of the national team than franchise cricket.
