In the affordable budget electric car segment in India, two names are grabbing attention: the MG Comet EV and the Tata Punch EV. Both affordable EVs come with BaaS options and target different customer segments. Price of both EVs
The first car is the MG Comet EV, which is considered relatively more affordable. Its starting price is around Rs 4.99 lakh in the BaaS (Battery as a Service) model. The price of this car with battery starts from Rs 7.62 lakh.
Talking about the Tata Punch EV on the other hand, its starting price is around Rs 6.49 lakh in the BaaS model, while the price with battery starts around Rs 9.69 lakh. However, the battery fare for the Punch EV is around Rs 2.60 per km, which is lower than the Comet EV’s fare of around Rs 3.20 per km. So the Punch EV could be more cost-effective in the long run for long-distance commuters.
Design and size
In terms of design and size, the Tata Punch EV is big as it is a micro SUV. So it gets more space and better road presence. Whereas the MG Comet EV is a small city car, specially designed keeping in mind the city congestion and easy parking. If one travels a lot with the family, the Punch EV could be a more practical option.

Range of both cars
The Tata Punch EV looks to be leading in terms of range as well. This car can give a range of around 315 to 421 km once fully charged. Whereas the MG Comet EV claims a range of around 230 km.
So, if you are on a tight budget and want an electric car for short distances in the city, then the MG Comet EV can be a good option. However, if one wants more range, bigger size and more space for the family, the Tata Punch EV could be a better value-for-money option.
