Engine and Power

Both these SUVs are powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, though there are some differences in performance. The engine of the Hyundai Exter normally produces 83 bhp of power, while the engine of the Tata Punch is slightly more powerful, producing 87 bhp of power. Additionally, a turbo-petrol engine option is also available for Tata Punch customers.

Look and design

This new ‘facelift’ model has been given a modern look. It has a wider ‘grill’ than before, along with an attractive ‘silver trim’. Additionally, the ‘Exter’ badging has been moved from the bumper, closer to the DRLs i.e. slightly higher. This model, however, retains its characteristic, chunky and boxy design.

Interior and features

Tata Punch seems to be slightly ahead in terms of features. It offers features like a large 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, rear armrest and more USB ports. Its cabin gives a premium feel. The navy blue and gray color theme along with the carbon-black 3D design makes the interior look more attractive.

Safety and Space

Hyundai Exter gets safety features like ESC, hill start assist and central locking. It has a large boot space of 391 liters for storage. On the other hand, the Tata Punch leads the way in safety with a 5-star India NCAP rating. It also features a 360-degree camera and advanced driving aids. However, its boot space is 366 liters which is less than Exter.

How much does it cost?

The 2026 Hyundai Exter starts at around Rs 5.79 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top model goes up to Rs 9.42 lakh. The Tata Punch starts at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and the top variant costs around Rs 10.54 lakh (ex-showroom).
