Taylor Swift hails Mikaela Shiffrin’s record-breaking performance
Taylor Swift cheered on American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin after she secured a gold medal in slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics, currently being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
Taking to Instagram, the 36-year-old pop sensation extended her heartfelt congratulations to the 30-year-old athlete by commenting on her post.
Shiffrin channeled her inner Swiftie and celebrated her big achievement by posting a photo from the event alongside lyrics from Swift’s viral track Ruin the Friendship from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
“My advice is always ruin the friendship,” the Olympic star captioned the post on Thursday, February 19.
To which the 14-time Grammy winner responded, “HISTORIC (gold medal emojis).”
This is not the first time Shiffrin has given a special nod to Swift. She previously praised the singer, revealing how the Fire it up hitmaker has been a true inspiration to her.
“I’ve spent 15 years studying Taylor Swift, and she has been guiding me a little bit every step of the way,” she told The New York Times in January 2024.
Shiffrin added, “It’s why most Swifties become Swifties. It feels like her music is speaking directly to you. Her experiences resonate; I’ve always tried to learn from them.”
While the sportswoman marked her second slalom gold medal, Swift also extended her heartfelt support to all the athletes competing at the highly anticipated multi-sport event at its opening ceremony.
