Team India announced for T20 World Cup 2026

Mumbai: BCCI has officially announced the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The selection committee has taken many surprising decisions this time, the biggest decision of which is to keep Shubhman Gill out of the team. As expected, the command of the team has been handed over to Suryakumar Yadav, but the board has surprised everyone by selecting Gujarat all-rounder Akshar Patel as the vice captain.

The biggest change in this team selection has been seen in the opening pair and middle order. Shubman Gill, who held the captaincy in One-Day and Test, has not been selected for the World Cup in T20 format. In place of Gill, the selectors have placed their trust in Sanju Samson, who has been a victim of constant neglect. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan, who made Jharkhand the champion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025) and scored an explosive century in the final, has been rewarded for his strong performance.

Star all-rounder Akshar Patel has been appointed as the vice captain of Team India. Keeping in mind his experienced game and accuracy on the field, BCCI has given him this big responsibility. Talking about the spin department, the pair of Varun Chakraborty and Kuldeep Yadav will be seen doing wonders on the field as ‘spin attack’. To select this important team, BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar, captain Suryakumar Yadav and former cricketer R.P. A high level meeting of members including Singh was held. In this meeting, a roadmap for the 2026 World Cup has been prepared based on the recent form and fitness of the players.
