The final match of T20 World Cup 2026 is being played between India and New Zealand on March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. After the toss, when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav announced the playing eleven of Team India, many fans were surprised. Actually, even in this big match, spinner Kuldeep Yadav was not given a place in the team.
The decision to leave out Kuldeep Yadav became a topic of discussion as he was expected to play in the final. In his place, the team management once again expressed confidence in Varun Chakraborty and kept him included in the playing eleven.

Before this final match, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believed that Team India should give a chance to Kuldeep Yadav in place of struggling Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakraborty. Gavaskar told India Today, ‘If I have to make changes, I will include Kuldeep Yadav in the team. At present Varun Chakraborty’s confidence seems to be broken. Since the Super-8 stage, when he has faced strong teams, he has proved to be very expensive and has conceded a lot of runs.

He further said, ‘On a ground like Narendra Modi Stadium, where the boundaries are very big, Kuldeep Yadav can prove to be a better option. Kuldeep’s specialty is that he can turn the ball well even on a flat pitch.
Kuldeep and Varun’s record in Ahmedabad
It is worth noting that Kuldeep Yadav has played only one match so far in T20 World 2026. In the match against Pakistan, he took 1 wicket for 14 runs in 3 overs, which was considered a good performance. However, Kuldeep has played only one match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In that match, he bowled only one over and did not take any wicket.

On the other hand, Varun Chakravarthy has played nine matches so far in the T20 World Cup 2026 and has taken 13 wickets.
