Team India’s woes worsen as Rishabh Pant suffers a knee injury in first Test against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma provides update

Team India’s position in the first Test against New Zealand worsened on Day 2 after wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was hit on the left knee. India were dismissed for 46 runs in their first innings and then Pant’s injury increased Rohit’s problems.

The incident occurred in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings. Pant was in discomfort and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as he couldn’t carry on. Rohit Sharma provided update on the southpaw.

“Rishabh got hit on the left knee, the same as he had surgery. So he left the field more as a precautionary measure. Hopefully we can see him back on field tomorrow,” Rohit Sharma said.

Pant was out of action for more than a year due to his car accident. He recently returned to red-ball and performed well against Bangladesh. He worked hard to recover from his left knee injury and the current setback could impact India in the ongoing series against New Zealand.

After the matches against the Tom Latham-side, India will compete against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Pant’s injury could pose serious concerns for captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Pant’s departure from the field has left a significant gap in India’s batting line-up as he is one of the best batters in the longest format of the game.
