Tehran’s enthusiasm was high after the meeting between President Putin and Araghchi.
Moscow. Amid the ongoing high tensions with Israel and America, Iran’s enthusiasm has increased due to increasing Russian support. A statement issued by the Kremlin said that Russia will do everything for Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that he is happy to have high-level talks with the Russian leadership in this period of massive instability and change in the region. Araghchi made this statement after bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Araghchi has informed Putin about the latest situation of the war.
Araghchi’s statement comes amid uncertainty surrounding a proposed second round of peace talks to end the ongoing war in West Asia (Middle East). Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Monday, where he met with President Vladimir Putin. Putin praised the Iranian people, saying they are fighting bravely and courageously for their sovereignty. Abbas Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X: “I am pleased to engage with Russia at the highest level at this time of major change and instability in the region. Recent events have proven the depth and strength of our strategic partnership.” He also said that as our relations grow stronger, we are grateful for Russia’s solidarity and welcome Russia’s support for diplomacy.
Russian President Putin, during his meeting with Abbas Araghchi, said that Moscow will make every effort to establish peace in West Asia as soon as possible. The Iranian Foreign Minister told Putin that the relations between Moscow and Tehran are a “strategic partnership of the highest level” and this partnership will continue to grow regardless of the circumstances. He expressed gratitude for Russia’s strong support to Iran. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the talks between Putin and Araghchi were “useful and constructive.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia is ready to provide any mediation or good offices acceptable to both sides. He said, “We are ready to do everything so that a lasting peace is ultimately established and there is no return to war.” The first round of Iran-US peace talks, held on April 11-12, failed to yield the desired results. Before coming to Russia, Araghchi made a “very promising” visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, where he held positive discussions with Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. He also visited Oman, where he held talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq on the security of the Strait of Hormuz and diplomatic efforts to end the Iran-US conflict.
