New Delhi, 22 March. Iran’s reaction has also come to light after US President Donald Trump’s threat to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has said that Hormuz is open to all except ‘enemy countries’. An Iranian official said this to the United Nations Maritime Organization on Sunday.
Iranian official Ali Mousavi said that his country is ready to work together with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to increase maritime security in the Gulf. But only those ships can go from there, which are not associated with Iran’s enemies. Other ships will have to follow Iran’s rules and coordinate with it to pass through Hormuz.
Describing the US and Israeli attacks on Iran as the root cause of the current situation in Hormuz, he said that diplomacy is Iran’s priority, but it is very important to stop the attacks and build trust between the two sides.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz important??
20% of the world’s oil and gas trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has targeted some ships passing through this route. After these attacks, trade through this route is almost closed. Oil supplies from Gulf countries have stopped as trade through Hormuz is almost closed. Its effect is also visible on the economy of many countries. Currently, Iran has allowed some Asian countries including China and India to take out their ships from here.
